My first word other than "Mom" or "Dad" was "ball." My parents have a theory that a child's first non-parentally identifying word often defines much of their lives. With me, they were certainly right. My first love was baseball, but I loved playing any sport with a ball, and I still do! But my parents were right about another thing, too: they taught me that the true first love of my life should always be Christ. And I am proud to say that He is!
I played basketball through both high school and college – I was even an Academic All-American two years in a row while in college. But the college I attended was not all about sports: I went to a small Bible school called Life Pacific College. While I was in college, I worked at the library and as an interim youth pastor at Tolouca Lake Foursquare Church. After I graduated, I led a musical evangelistic team across the country and around the world with the para-church organization Jews For Jesus for 18 months. That was an experience that changed my life and my ministry dramatically – I was forced to learn, grow, and change in ways that I had never thought I had needed to before. Shortly after I came back from that tour, I got involved with the church I am at now: Royal Oaks Foursquare. I am involved in leading with the youth and worship team there and am also pursuing a Foursquare pastoral license. My wife, Joy, and I got married soon after I returned from traveling with Jews For Jesus, and we live happily together in sunny Burbank, CA!
